California Proposition 65 Information
This page provides our customers with the disclosure required under California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as “Proposition 65” (Cal. Health & Safety Code §25249.6).
What Proposition 65 Requires
Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide a “clear and reasonable warning” before knowingly and intentionally exposing California residents to chemicals identified by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The warning does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe to use, or that it violates any product-safety standard or requirement; it is a disclosure of potential exposure.
Which Products This Warning Applies To
La Grange Window Coverings is an authorized dealer for several window-covering manufacturers. Some products we offer contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl, or PVC-composite materials and may contain Prop 65-listed chemicals, most commonly di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), a phthalate plasticizer used to make flexible PVC. Products in this category include, but are not limited to:
- Vinyl plantation shutters
- Hunter Douglas Palm Beach™ Polysatin and NewStyle® composite shutters (PVC composite)
- Vinyl and faux-wood horizontal blinds
- Select roller-shade and roman-shade bottom rails and cord-control components
For the specific chemical identification applicable to any individual product line, please ask our team at your consultation. We will also provide the manufacturer's labeling that accompanies the product at delivery and installation.
Prop 65-Free Alternatives
Many of the window-covering lines we carry are constructed without PVC or vinyl. Real-wood plantation shutters, natural wood blinds, woven-wood and bamboo shades, fabric cellular shades, fabric roller shades, and most drapery and roman-shade fabrics fall in this category. We are happy to identify and discuss material composition for any product during your consultation so you can make an informed choice.
